I get asked everyday for the "Indestructible Dog Toy". My general response is, "No such thing!" I hand-pick every item on our shelves, and I have a roster of doggy pals who are happy to test the "toughness" of toys for me, so I am pretty good at recommending toys that will stand up to rough play, but all dog owners know that if a dog wants to shred a toy, he or she will!
If your dog is not too gentle on his toys, here are a few you may want to check out the next time you're in the shop:
- From the Field Tug-A-Hemp Rope Toys - These guys are awesome! Made from organic hemp, even if your dog DOES eat this toy it's similar to eating grass. Hemp is naturally anti-microbial, mold and mildew resistant, and hypoallergenic. It's a renewable resource that grows without pesticides or weed colors. You can feel good about your pup chewing on this toy. The ropes also have a great earthy smell that dogs seem to prefer over cotton or other types of rope.
- Busy Buddy "The Jack" Toy - This is one of our toughest toys. It's made of tough plastic, and comes apart so you can refill the "gnawhide" rings and keep your dog interested in chewing on it. It's a funny shape and will go all over the place when your dog tosses it in the air.
- Busy Buddy "Squirrel Dude" Toy - A classic. This toy is similar to the KONG line, but we like it better because it has nubbies to keep the treats inside (You can adjust them to match your dog's level of persistence), it's a squirrel, and it's PURPLE! This guy will last a while even with tough chewers.
Bones and other Chewies are also great for dogs who can't be trusted with toys. At least with bones they're MEANT to be eaten!
